I don’t know why, but any time someone says something critical to someone else about writing, seems like the uneducated response is to assume that person is ‘frustrated’ about his own writing.
Please. EVERYONE is frustrated, at one point or another, with their own writing. JK Rowling was frustrated and probably is every once in a while when a page or chapter doesn’t work out.
Okay, someone on some message board somewhere said they had the idea for a great novel. Of course, they don’t want to write said novel and they ask someone else to write it, for 50% of the profits. o.O
Well you know my opinion on that.
So someone posts the nice, “That’s not how it works.” line of thoughts.
And person number two posts something a little more to the point. “Doesn’t make sense, ideas aren’t worth a hill of beans, ghostwriters arn’t cheap, if you want to get on with the idea, best put up some cash and find a good one.”
Not as nice, but to the point.
And someone posts this guy is ‘frustrated’.
Yeah, he’s frustrated. He’s reading an ad that’s like all the rest out there, someone has an idea.
There are other times when people try to help out someone else, not to put them down but gives a critical look at an idea to try to work through what they want. And people assume they must be a frustated writer who can’t think big, etc.
Okay, here’s the thing: If you are going to assume, better know who you are talking to first. It was funny it was so easy for someone to roll off: “I assume you’re a frustrated writer.” It was funny because the person who they were talking to was a rather successful, and highly published, individual offering advice. Might not have been Stephen King but…
Sorry for my little rant. Well, no I’m not. ![]()
