I have been looking up ways to help promote blogs, since that is what I’ve come to enjoy. I found some interesting sites which promised much in the way of information.

Some were very vague, which is striking, because most of the tips are: Have great content!

Silly, because their content, their tips for helping to promote blogs, are very basic and ‘no duh’ type of info.

I hate generic information just like anyone else. Sometimes when you start at the beginning, it is good advice, but being specific helps.

Here’s what I’ve learned about blogging and promoting so far.

Blog Every Day - When Possible

Regular readers come from when you post regularly. Give them something to look forward to every day.

Include Helpful Topics

Fun and enjoyable topics are wonderful. Helpful and research filled topics are better. Throw in at least one helpful, fully research topic every week and you’ll see people coming back for more. Lists are helpful. Links to resources are helpful. Facts are helpful. For example, blogging tips that include generic ‘write great topics’ is not helpful. Giving lists of popular and suggestive topics is.

Blog Others And Link

Answer people’s questions about your blog in your blog and give a link to them. Yes, that’s giving away ‘free links’ but you don’t always have to do this. Heck, just answering the question of someone is great.

And last of all: Find good sites about blogging and go down the list of resources. Here’s one. Here’s another. Bookmark them, go through the lists one by one. Follow each step. It takes time but it is helpful and will keep you working.

Oh yeah and when possible, put up a picture or video. People are attracted to colorful blogs.
