The Daily Writing Job Checklist

This is my list. The set of links I use almost every day to
find those jobs that are waiting to be filled.

Each link opens up a new window. All one has to do is search the page, collect the information and then close the window to click on the next link.

I’ve linked directly to where the jobs are so you don’t have to click on a ton of links just to get to the jobs.

This list saves me tons of time.

There’s a little something here for everyone, freelancers and regular working stiffs alike. (as my mom likes to remind me, the real jobs ;) )

START HERE

These are websites that are free, and where employers go to actually post their job leads.

MediaBistro - You do have to sign in to see the jobs, but it’s free.

Places For Writers - Other sections on this site besides the job link.

Author Link - Job search which is powered by Monster.

Magazine Writer Jobs - List of jobs for the magazine market.

Freelance Writers- This is to the high paying forum. The other forum is below.

Journalism Jobs - Best place to find jobs in journalism. Often has freelance postings.

Writing Jobs at Hot Jobs - Narrowed listing to jobs that require fine writing skills.

Monster’s Writing Jobs - Good to check for quality leads.

Dice.com - Mostly technical jobs.

Editor and Publisher Jobs - Good resource!

The Craig’s

This is a list of the writing listings at Craig’s List. Two for each city. Recommended
checking from the top five listed here. (Dig around more through Craig’s List for additional
cities.)

Link 2 might have low or nonpaying opportunities. Just keep your eyes open.

San Fran - 1 . 2Los Angeles - 1 . 2

New York - 1 . 2

Chicago - 1 . 2

Boston - 1 . 2

MySpace

Like Craig’s List, MySpace has a classified ads site that is separated into individual categories by city.

These are the writing gigs for major cities:

Los Angeles

New York

Chicago

Boston

Do not forget to check other cities, including your local major city.

PR Jobs - This place didn’t have any jobs when I visited, but
keep an eye on it.

Concept Art - Occasionally has comic and graphic novel writer jobs.

Digital Webbing - For writers of comics and graphic novels.

Cartoon Conspiracy - Short list of jobs, mostly for artists but some
for writers.

Aquent - Another new one with jobs worldwide.

Creative Hotlist - This has a good handful of leads.

Absolute Write Paying Markets - This message board is often updated.

Absolute Write Sharing Leads - Shared leads to paying markets.

Writer’s Weekly - Message board has loads of quality leads.

Freelance BBS - More listed freelance writing jobs.

Writer Jobs - Writer’s Write website hosts job opportunities.

IRE Jobs - Lots of unique writing job leads for investigative reporters.

Freelance Writing - The low pay gigs sometimes has decent listings. Sometimes.

Writer Find - Good list of leads here, not updated all that often but has good leads.

Check out more great job boards at the Writer’s Gazette!

Go down the list at Freelance Writing Jobs too! Some bidding sites and newsletters there.

The Quick Lists

I call them relisters, because they borrow links from other websites and repost them on
blogs or web pages. If you don’t have time to go through the list above, use these resources. You should check them out anyway, because they will often catch leads you might have missed in your searching.

Freelance Writing Gigs - A collection of updated feelance writing links from all over the web.

Morning Coffee - This one is updated once a week, but with good leads.

PoeWar Jobs - More leads, collected from the web.

Writer’s Weekly Markets - Another list of leads, updated usually
every week.

Sun Oasis - Post jobs daily.

Still not enough leads? Feel like doing some bidding? Try the Monster List of Freelance Job Sites provided by Freelance Switch.

And if you are wondering… the answer is yes. I use this list all the time. It takes me about twenty to forty minutes a day to go through all of the websites and look for updated leads. I keep trying to make it easier and better.

Have ideas on how to make this better? Feel free to leave a comment or email me to let me know of your favorite resources for looking for writing jobs.
