Make Money Writing - While Waiting For The Big Time
July 30th, 2007 by Me
Here’s a good way to make money writing part time if a) you like to write and yet you don’t want to be a ‘nonfiction’ writer b) you need just about $500 - $1000 a month and you only want part time work and c) you have the ability to type fast, have reasonable grammar and spelling and you are willing to work hard.
1. Content Writing
Avoid cheap content sites if possible. Here’s a hint: If they pay LESS than what you would get at Associated Content, ditch it. I’ve seen people, who could write for AC and then go back to write 500-word articles for $3.50 or less. I did that before when I first started, never again and you don’t need to start out in this way.
Look for an average of $5 per 250 words minimum. Most content sites will pay $30 for 500 words. Find freelance writing jobs here. Search daily, apply widely.
Average per month: $500 to $1000, with about $300 per gig estimate. Payment is usually instantly before or after completion of assignments.
2. Blogging
Start one or two blogs (limit the number, it is tempting to do more but it’s a lot of work), work on promoting it for three months, and post at least twice a week, preferrably once a day.
Use this resource to get free information on how to start, what to talk about, where to post your blog, etc. Use these blogging sites to post ads on your side. Use the ads and Google Adsense.
NOTE: I don’t really recommend the ‘revenue sharing’ websites. In most cases, it is pennies a day and you can’t use things like Paid Per Post on them, and some sites PPP won’t allow you to use.
Average per month: $200 - $300 spending 1 - 2 hours a day with just adding advertising to your blog, possible to make more with Google Adsense included. Google Adsense advertisment rates rise with popularity, don’t expcet instant payments or big bucks but it helps.
3. eBooks
This is the way to work really hard for a few months and then you’ll get long term rewards.
Pick a topic, write an ebook on it.
Find someone who will sell it for you, and you get a share of commissions. If you choose this road, pick a site that sells ebooks like your regularly and ask if they would like to see your book.
Or, set up your own site, and sell through ClickBank. You share your income with people working hard to sell your product.
Average per month: It really depends on your ebook, but when I started out years ago, I had $50 to $100 a month per ebook. The best part was it required no additional work. You just put it up and leave it alone.
